Just north of Charlotte \u2014 nestled between the Sugar Creek battlefield and Cowan\u2019s Ford \u2014 a remarkable series of features have been found:<\/p><p data-start=\"844\" data-end=\"998\"><strong>\ud83e\udea8 Photo Evidence:<\/strong><\/p><p data-start=\"844\" data-end=\"998\"><strong>Earth Works<\/strong><\/p><p data-start=\"844\" data-end=\"998\"><strong>Slopped hills\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p data-start=\"844\" data-end=\"998\">Strategic location at highest point of the north south east west cross roads where the British could be trapped.\u00a0<br data-start=\"866\" data-end=\"869\" \/>A <strong data-start=\"871\" data-end=\"893\">working stone bowl<\/strong> still in place, embedded into a large granite outcropping \u2014 a signature of Catawba tribal craftsmanship.<\/p><p data-start=\"1000\" data-end=\"1176\">\ud83c\udf33 <strong data-start=\"1003\" data-end=\"1020\">Land Markers:<\/strong><br data-start=\"1020\" data-end=\"1023\" \/>A <strong data-start=\"1025\" data-end=\"1057\">crooked, unusually bent tree<\/strong> towering 150 feet tall, likely used as a trail marker or boundary sign, consistent with Indigenous trail-tree methods.<\/p><p data-start=\"1178\" data-end=\"1350\">\ud83e\udea8 <strong data-start=\"1181\" data-end=\"1206\">Engineered Stonework:<\/strong><br data-start=\"1206\" data-end=\"1209\" \/>Massive <strong data-start=\"1217\" data-end=\"1246\">linear-cut stone features<\/strong> visible just beneath the leaf litter \u2014 strongly suggestive of intentional shaping, not natural erosion.<\/p><p data-start=\"1352\" data-end=\"1691\">\ud83e\ude96 <strong data-start=\"1355\" data-end=\"1392\">Proximity to Revolutionary Sites:<\/strong><br data-start=\"1392\" data-end=\"1395\" \/>This camp lies directly in the line of Revolutionary War troop movements. Families such as the <strong data-start=\"1490\" data-end=\"1504\">Alexanders<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1506\" data-end=\"1519\">Torrences<\/strong>, and others occupied nearby homesteads. This site was <strong data-start=\"1574\" data-end=\"1620\">perfectly situated on the Great Wagon Road<\/strong>, guarding the gateway between Philadelphia, Charlotte, and Charleston.<\/p><p data-start=\"1693\" data-end=\"1936\">\ud83e\udd85 <strong data-start=\"1696\" data-end=\"1728\">Lost Stronghold, Reawakened:<\/strong><br data-start=\"1728\" data-end=\"1731\" \/>British cavalry plates, period artifacts, and Native American signs all converge here \u2014 at what may have been a combined <strong data-start=\"1852\" data-end=\"1885\">Native\u2013Patriot defensive camp<\/strong>, now partially buried beneath apartment complexes.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-da91978 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"da91978\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f66745f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f66745f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/><p><!-- \/wp:separator --><!-- wp:heading {\"level\":3} --><\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\uded1 LOST FOREVER: A Revolutionary War Fort Erased Before It Could Be Proven<\/h3><p><!-- \/wp:heading --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p><p>Just north of Charlotte, NC \u2014 at a historic crossroads between Cowan\u2019s Ford, Sugar Creek, and the old Great Wagon Road \u2014 stood what may have been one of the <strong>last unrecognized Patriot strongholds<\/strong> of the American Revolution.<\/p><p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p><p>\ud83e\ude96 <strong>Fortified Earthworks. Indian Camps. British Cavalry Plates.<\/strong><br \/>I found it. I walked it. I lived next to the Alexander family land where it stood. I\u2019ve seen the carved rock bowls, the Catawba tree markers, and the buried stone walls. The site had every sign of an Indigenous-Patriot defensive camp \u2014 positioned perfectly to block British movement from the north.<\/p><p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p><p>\ud83d\udce6 <strong>But now it\u2019s gone.<\/strong> Bulldozed.<br \/>Replaced by an apartment complex. The full fort and hillside were stripped and leveled. The topsoil \u2014 rich with artifacts \u2014 hauled off to an unknown destination.
